My creative space - fence paling creativity.

I mentioned a few posts ago that a recent storm blew down part of our old fence. It was due to be replaced and with the wind's help, it kicked us into gear to do something about it. I've looked at the fence everyday thinking there must be something I can make out of those palings. The palings would be at least 20 years old and they've got real character.

I need your help. If you've got any ideas or can point me in the direction of some paling inspiration, please share. I don't want these palings to go to the tip but if I don't come up with an idea good enough to convince the husband that I need to keep them, that's where they'll end up.

I do have one idea that comes to mind - a coffee table! Like this one, I could mount the palings onto an existing table or cane basket and put it on wheels.

Decisions, decisions. Look forward to your advice!

YES!! Definately the coffee table, I remember you looking at one a while ago, now you can do it! Under no circumstances should those pailings go to the tip...a name sign for your house, wooden mobiles, frames, home decor..oh, the possibilities!

Yes i recommend the movie :) Its nice for a quite Sunday ... well, actually whenever you may want to see it!

Of course you need to recycle that .... Shelfs? Tray? (I used Google because i wasnt sure about those words hahaha).
Old wood looks amazing ... i have 2 benchs with that colour .. lovely!

normally it's my partner that recycles everything!!
In a cafe I saw a coffee table made out of a pallet & I LOVED it! so I am with you on the coffee table.
I took a photo of it to show my partner, so hopefully some day he will make it. I can email you the pic if you like.

Go the coffee table or two, one for outside as well! You could do a little feature fence for the garden, storage boxes, planter boxes........ Since we've been here we have had 3 of our fences fall down, sadly most of the pickets went in the fire...... But I do still have a neat pile hidden in the shed.

those pailings looks so full of character! i think a coffee table or planter boxes for herbs would be sweet too - can't wait to see what you come up with!

table for sure!
I have a whole section of old fencing waiting for a frame to be made to turn into a table for outside. trying to convince my husband to weld up the frame is the hard part!

You can also just put them at the wall. One next to the other with uneven raw ends they will define a special part where you can hang up little papers, sketches, notes, snapshots. Best, Antje

picture frames! i've seen picture frames made of palings in a couple of art galleries in sorrento. absolutely beautful. some are left rough and others are squared off to create perfect squares and rectangles. but i think the key is to keep them raw. they look amazing. perhaps you can find some shells on your beach and glue the shells into nice arrangements within the frames too?
