Queen of the horders

My mum hordes everything. Throughout the years, all my family members, including myself, have taken their turn in trying to convince my mother to scale back on what we perceived as junk. Bottles, suitcases, stamps, shells, fossils, bricks, spoons, dresses, you name it, she hordes it. Like so many insights I've had since I've grown older, had children of my own and a home to nest in, I realise I was too hasty to cast judgement. Akin to a young Luke Skywalker receiving wisdom from Yoda, my mum once again is right...

"My daughter, one day, you too will have your own collection, cherish, you will".

The pictures above are but a small sample of what I found in her spare room closet.

Are they string puppets? How fantastic! I love her suitcases...she's right, I think it takes us a while to grow up & really appreciate those treasures - thank goodness we eventually do!

I'm sure hoarding is genetic! My siblings and I have warned our dad that he needs to leave behind enough money for a funeral, and enough money for us to get rid of all his hoarded crap!
No matter how hard I try, I'm heading down the same path hee hee...

Oh yeah baby, those dolls are creepy! Thank goodness they're in her house and not yours (yet).

And I LOVE LOVE LOVE your sleeping bag idea for babies and kids! I'm going to start a prototype on the weekend - thank you SO much.

I love that pile of suitcases, just gorgeous.
I'm a bit of a hoarder too. My family were just joking about me this evening.
So no, sorry to put you in a panic, but Mothers Day was in May. We were way too busy at the time to celebrate so we did it this week instead.

Love the suitcases! I like to think of hoarders as "keepers of history" :)
I probably say that as I'm a hoarder and try to talk myself into thinking it's a good thing. Yes, I think it's good!!

I was just thinking the other day that my attitude to hoarding has changed dramatically in just a couple of years - from pressuring mum to chuck things out, to wishing she'd kept them... love those suitcases!

Hoarding is definitely genetic. There comes a point where one has crossed the line. My mom is far beyond that, my brother is worse, and I can see it from here.
