Flea Market Find

My mother never ceases to amaze me. She is such the opportunist and always seems to be in the right place at the right time. This week she visited me bearing gifts of the gorgeous kind. She picked up this table at a garage sale for $5.00.

The table had an old wooden knob which we replaced. I'm strongly thinking about painting it, but what colour? What do you think? Note the shrine above the table. That was put there by the original builder/owner when his wife passed away. When we renovated the house, I had firm views that to touch the shrine would be of poor taste and bad karma. So it stayed.  I've tried putting vases in it or pictures but it doesn't seem to work. My mum was suggesting buying a statue of some kind and painting it a bright colour to put in the shrine. So I will ponder this whilst I stare at the table and work through what colour to paint it.

For some more flea market finds, head over to Sophie's.

What a lovely little table. What about hanging some little mobile thingy in the shrine? Maybe a string of hearts or birds? Or you could paste some pretty paper to the inside of the space as a feature? The table would look lovely in another colour, perhaps the blue or green in the wonderful painting on the wall. Whatever you choose I'm sure it will look fab.

Actually, Sarah has a good idea about hanging a mobile.

You can get those very light Flensted ones. Though I'm wracking my brains to think of one that's not too childish..

Love the Marimekko!

Bargain table! I think green, or maybe blue. Don't worry about the "shrine" - think of it as a window without glass and stack with lovely things - a vase of fresh flowers, photo's, whatever!

Gorgeous little table(and rather spiffy lampshade too) I love the birds idea, or just one colour I would go 50s mint green or blue, but thats just me!
PS is it possible to have too much maple syrup on pancakes.

Im thinking yellow to match your gorgeous lamp shade, but you have to really love yellow as it would look pretty bold.

Beautiful wee table. I am liking white but it might look lovely in the pale minty green. Celebrate the shrine with a vase. You can rotate the vase and flowers, branches etc with the season. : )

I'm in love with the mural on the wall in the room where you took the photo. Love the dainty little table. You could paint it a color that would pull the colors in the mural out into the room. Beautiful! Thanks for sharing.

if you hang a painting or mirror in front of the shrine, it solves the problem of it being there without having to disresepct the original intention? and you change décor every so often, naturally..
table looks fine to me as is, but i'm sure she'll be happy with any colour too.. grand!

The table is lovely. what a great deal.

Hmmm the shrine..what about a mirror that is curved at the top or would that be like a shrine to who ever peers into that mirror?

What a lovely blog! I love your pictures and your writing style is great!

This table is lovely the way it is, but if you have to paint it, I would suggest aqua.

By the way, the little niche in your wall just cries out for an icon (my husband paints icons - not a sales pitch, just an observation!) We also have icon prints mounted on wood. If you are on Facebook, I can send you a link to our Facebook page.

Check out my blog if you like! I really enjoyed visiting yours!
